Rhythm Savvy for Video

This is the post that provides the exercise sound files for the Youtube video called Rhythm Savvy. The video is an introduction to my upcoming book called Rhythm Savvy which will be available in the summer of 2018.

In the video I provide you some guidance for playing a few exercises within the book that will strengthen your sense of rhythm and time.

As I’ve done with the book, I’ve divided the video into three sections:

  1. Metronomic Time
  2. Groove Time
  3. Phrase Time

Here are the exercise files for the Metronomic Rhythm section

110 bpm with two bar gap, click only

90 bpm with 3 bar gap, click only

Here is the 8 bar rhythm track I used for the phrase rhythm exercise of 2 bar and 4 bar improvised phrases.

Here’s the video:

The clever “easter egg” is (quoting the reference in Wikipedia): Joel Thomas Zimmerman, known professionally as deadmau5, is a Canadian electronic music producer, DJ, musician, and composer.
My insight: I particularly enjoy the ethereal quality of his music with notes that seem to have an infinite continuum, yet at the same time it has a haunting and unmistakable rhythm that connects with the resonance of body rhythms – heart beating breathing, etc.
