DA PACEM DOMINE
LISTEN TO DA PACEM DOMINE
Translated as Give peace Lord, this is the incipit of two different 6th century Latin texts, a hymn and an introit resulting in a beautiful meditative piece of music.
This piece is based on the composition by Arvo Pärt for four voices written in 2004. Pärt wrote several versions, also for voices and string orchestra, and for instruments alone, string quartet or string orchestra. To my knowledge, this is the first arrangement of the piece for four trombones and choir.
Pärt's composition was first introduced to me by Gerry Pagano. The piece was a consideration for an album he and Doug Yeo are recording in my studio that will be released soon. Yeo and Pagano opted instead for another piece by Pärt, but Gerry recorded the two bottom voices for this version. Alto trombone performs the top two voices.
